Who we are

Overcast Comics LLC is an independent comic book publisher based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our website address is: https://overcastcomicbooks.com

If you have questions about this policy, or about the personal information we hold about you, you can reach us at studio@overcastcomics.com

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Subscriptions

If you subscribe to updates from this site, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. We use this only to send updates about our books, comics, and campaigns. We don’t sell or rent subscriber email addresses.

Subscriptions are handled by Jetpack and MailPoet, services provided by Automattic. Your email address is stored on Automattic’s systems as part of those services. Automattic’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/

Subscriptions require confirmation. After you sign up, you’ll receive an email asking you to confirm. You are not added to our list until you do.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time, or contact us at studio@overcastcomics.com to be removed.

Kickstarter Campaigns

We run crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter. If you back a campaign, that transaction happens on Kickstarter’s platform, not on this website. Kickstarter collects your payment information and handles payment processing. We never see or store your payment details. Kickstarter’s privacy policy is available here: https://www.kickstarter.com/privacy

As the campaign creator, we receive information from Kickstarter about our backers, which may include your name, email address, shipping address, pledge amount, and reward selection. We use this to communicate about the campaign and to fulfill rewards.

We store backer information in Microsoft OneDrive. Microsoft’s privacy statement is available here: https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement

To ship physical rewards, we provide your name and shipping address to Pirate Ship, the service we use to create shipping labels. Pirate Ship’s privacy policy is available here: https://www.pirateship.com/privacy

We do not add backers to our newsletter list unless you have separately given us permission to do so.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Google Analytics also sets cookies on this site to measure how visitors use it. See the Analytics section below for details on what that collects.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use this site. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, the site or search that referred you, and general information about your browser, device, and approximate location. Google’s privacy policy is available here: https://policies.google.com/privacy

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you subscribe to updates, we retain your email address until you unsubscribe.

If you back one of our Kickstarter campaigns, we retain your name and shipping address for up to one year after your rewards have been fulfilled, to handle any shipping issues, replacements, or questions. After that, we delete it. Financial and transaction records are retained separately, for as long as required for tax and accounting purposes.

What rights you have over your data

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To make a request, email studio@overcastcomics.com

This applies whether you subscribed to updates, backed one of our campaigns, left a comment, or have an account on this site.

If you are a subscriber, you can also unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, without contacting us.

Some information we may not be able to delete on request, where we are obliged to keep it for administrative, legal, tax, or security purposes. If that applies to your request, we will tell you what we are keeping and why.

Information held by Kickstarter about your pledge is governed by Kickstarter’s own privacy policy, and requests about that data should be directed to them.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet, provided by Automattic).

This site is hosted on WordPress.com. Subscriber information is held by Automattic through Jetpack and MailPoet. Site usage information is collected by Google Analytics. Backer information from Kickstarter campaigns is stored in Microsoft OneDrive and shared with Pirate Ship for shipping label creation.
